Our Story

CMM began in 1996 in Indianapolis, Indiana as Prescient Information Systems by Paul Samulowitz and Steve Hendrick. Steve having a technical background and Paul with a sales and business background formed the initial company as a document management solutions provider working with products such as IBM FileNet and PC Docs.

Y2k – The Year 2000

During the Y2K period CMM became one of a few specialists preparing and testing systems with IBM FileNet in preparation for the potential issues with the systems transitions to the year 2000. Not long after IBM FileNet and CMM began to work together on transitioning customers from the older legacy IBM FileNet solutions to the current line of IBM FileNet solutions. This made CMM one a few conversion specialists of moving large amounts of database data into a new IBM FileNet database document management application.

A Big Opportunity

In 2004, CMM was the primary conversions specialist for Sallie Mae moving 3rd party document management applications into their large IBM FileNet environment.

Sallie Mae posed a challenge, if CMM had the ability to convert the 26,000 rolls of microfilm into their IBM FileNet repository.

We knew this would be a large undertaking requiring new skills by acquiring the proper equipment and skills to make sure the job was completed timely and accurately.

The project was scheduled to be completed over a one-year timeframe with a result of over 130 million records added to their IBM FileNet repository.

    Success!!!

When the project was complete, it was found that we had one of the largest microfilm in the United States.

CMM is converting all the Indiana files from microfilm to electronic images. In May, CMM demonstrated how it would handle the job by converting thousands of images from various microfilm cartridges, matching them to the index data for CARS, performing a quality check of the work and writing a special software to help IDC double-check the work.

“Some of the images on the microfilm cartridges are not as good as they once were, and CMM is making them as crisp and clear as they can be.”
Mike Young, IDC business systems associate

    Future Possibilities

From this point, we were already getting request for more microfilm, microfiche and even paper to digital conversions. This portion of our business was successful in it’s early years but we felt if given more focus it could grow exponentially.

To this end we made the decision to sell the document management portion of the business in 2012 to allow our full focus on the conversion opportunities.

Over the years, we changed locations, we enhanced our team with more diverse experience but one thing that remained the same is our commitment to our customers.

Today CMM is still one of the nation’s largest microfilm conversion specialist with customers such as GE and Homeland Security. All of our equipment is state of the art and every customer’s project has been successful.
